BIOGRAPHY
Daniel Narcisse was born in La Réunion and started playing handball there, before moving to the mainland to join Chambéry Savoie in 1998. Both Narcisse and the club had several successes, including becoming French champions in 2001, and he attracted attention from VfL Gummersbach in Germany. Narcisse spent three seasons at Gummersbach before returning to Chambéry for a brief period.
However, the EHF Champions League was calling and he moved to Kiel in 2009. In his very first season Kiel reached the inaugural EHF FINAL4 and beat Barcelona in the final. Narcisse played an important role in the victory, especially in the close final minutes.
Unfortunately, a knee injury impacted the following season, but Narcisse was recovered for the following season and in 2011/12 Kiel once again won the Champions League, after also winning the SuperGlobe, the German Bundesliga, and the German Cup.
That year was also notable for Narcisse as he helped France to a second successive Olympic Games gold medal and was named IHF World Player of the Year. During his international career - which saw Narcisse win 311 caps and score 943 goals - he also won four world championship titles and three EHF EURO titles, in addition to minor medals at all three major championships. In 2008, Narcisse was named All-star left back of both the EHF EURO and Beijing Olympic Games.
Narcisse retired in 2018 after five years with Paris Saint-Germain, and two more EHF FINAL4 appearances. He was carried around the court by his teammates at the end of his final match in May that year in recognition of his achievements for clubs and country.
