Kobenhavn do the double
They danced through the confetti and splashed their champagne through the Boxen arena in Herning on Saturday evening: AG Kobenhavn have repeated their Danish double of the 2010/11 season.
After winning the Danish cup in the winter, the VELUX EHF FINAL4 participants won both league finals against BSV Bjerringbro Silkeborg.
They won 30:19 win on Wednesday in Bjerringbro, Kobenhavn, and also won the second leg, played in the Boxen Arena in Herning - 22:21 (11:12) – but everything had been decided before the starting whistle on Saturday attended by more than 10.000 spectators.
Though Bjerringbro led 8:3, AGK had no problems in winning the game despite a weaker performance than one week before in Cologne.
The new and old champions were awarded with their gold medals and the champion’s plate by Per Bertelsen, President of the Danish Handball Federation, and Hassan Moustafa, IHF President, who had awarded AGK top star Mikkel Hansen the World Handball Player of the Year ahead of the game.
Besides Hansen, three more AGK players - goalkeeper Kasper Hvidt, right wing Niklas Ekberg and left wing Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson – were named as part of the All-star team of the Danish league.
The second leg of the final was the last match in the AGK dress for Sigurdsson, Rene Toft Hansen (both changing to VELUX EHF FINAL4 winner THW Kiel), Kasper Ottesen and Dennis Bo Jensen, who will leave the club.
Top newcomer for the Danish champion is Kim Andersson, coming from Kiel, the successor tpline player Toft Hansen will be Spanish international Carlos Prieto.
“We played a really good season, and next year we want to take revenge in the VELUX EHF Champions League,” said Mikkel Hansen. “We have reached most of our objectives, but not all."
