Last days at Beach Handball World Championships in Oman
After 20 matches played the participants for the second stage of competition were known.
Main round
After the Preliminary Round the teams ranked at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place of each group qualified for the Main Round where there is only one group (I) with six teams.
The respective results from the Preliminary Round matches against opponents which also went through to this round remain valid for the ranking of the Main Round.
In the Main Round each team plays 3 matches.
After the Main Round, the final phase of the competition will be played as semi-finals between the first four teams of group I.
In men's championship Russia, Brazil and Ukraine from Group A went to the Main Round. The group was completed by Croatia, Egypt and Spain from Group B.
On the first day of the Main Round, Brazil took two valuable points from Croatia in a shoot out game and Ukraine was better than Spain but had to go through shoot out too.
In women's category Denmark, Croatia and Uruguay from group A and Brazil, Norway and Hungary from group B still have a chance to compete for the title.
It is worth to mention that women team of Brazil is the only team in both categories that remained unbeaten after Preliminary Round.
On the first day of the Main Round however, Brazil is finally beaten by the Croatian girls.
Hungarian girls came to their first points in Group I, by winning against Uruguay with 2:0.
At the end of the day team Denmark won against Norway in shoot out.
Conslolation round
After the Preliminary Round the teams ranked at the 4th, 5th and 6th place of each group go into Consolation Round for places 7-12.
This phase will be played in one group (II) with 6 teams.
The respective results from the Preliminary Round matches against opponents which also went through to this round remain valid for the ranking of this round.
In the Consolation Round each team plays 3 matches.
In women's category Italy, Australia and China from group A and Poland, Thailand and Singapore from group B play in Consolation Round.
On the first day of the Consolidation Round of women’s tournament Italy was better than Thailand, and China had no problems with Singapore, both matches ended in 2:0 victories.
The Australian girls came to their second victory in the tournament by defeating Poland in shoot outs.
In men's competition group A has Oman, Bahrain and Australia as participants in the Consolation Round and in Group B Qatar, Players from Kuwait and Uruguay will play for places 7-12.
