Registration now open for Women's EHF EURO 2014
The European Handball Federation invites all its member federations to register for the 11th Women's EHF European Championship taking place in Hungary and Croatia from 7 to 21 December 2014.
The registration for all federations aiming to take part in the Women’s EHF EURO 2014 qualification shall be received by the EHF by 8 March 2013.
The final round of EHF EURO 2014 in Hungary and Croatia will be played with a total of 16 teams. Only Hungary and Croatia as organisers are directly qualified for the final tournament.
Consequently there are a total of 14 places at the final tournament available to be played for in the qualification. The EHF EURO 2014 qualification will be played in 2 phases (if necessary).
All teams besides Hungary and Croatia have to participate either in the Qualification Phase 1 and/or in the Qualification Phase 2 in order to qualify for the final tournament.
The two best-ranked teams in each of the seven qualification groups will qualify for the final tournament in Hungary and Croatia directly.
The draw for the qualification Phase 1 is scheduled for 26 March 2013 in Vienna. The draw for the qualification Phase 2 will be defined by Hungary and Croatia.
The procedure for the draw will be published once the number of participating teams is available. The teams will be seeded based on the EHF National Team Ranking valid for the EHF EURO 2014 Qualification.
Taking the two organisers, Hungary and Croatia, aside, the teams already directly qualified for the 2013 World Championship final tournament (Norway, Montenegro, Serbia) and the teams qualified for the 2013 World Championship Qualification Europe Play-offs (Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, France, Germany, Iceland, FYR Macedonia, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine) are directly qualified for Phase 2 of the EHF EURO 2014 qualification.
Phase 1 of the EHF EURO 2014 qualification will basically be played in form of tournaments at one venue from Friday 31 May to Sunday 2 June 2013.
Phase 2 will be played in three periods of two matches each (equals six qualification rounds), as the playing schedule is based on 7 groups of 4 teams.
