What teams in group II need to reach the final weekend

With one more match day ahead on Wednesday for Men's EHF EURO 2026 main round group II, four teams are fighting for two places in the semi-finals.

Croatia, Iceland, Slovenia and Sweden are all still in the running - but which two will stay in the medal race, who will play the 5/6 placement match, and whose journey ends? Find out what needs to happen for each team to progress.

GROUP II

Croatia:

  • qualify for the semi-final if they
    • win against Hungary
    • tie against Hungary AND either Iceland or Sweden do not win
    • lose against Hungary AND either Iceland or Sweden lose
  • will play the 5/6 placement match if they
    • tie against Hungary AND Iceland and Sweden win
    • lose against Hungary AND Iceland and Sweden tie

Iceland:

  • qualify for the semi-final if they
    • win against Slovenia
    • tie against Slovenia AND Sweden do not win
  • will play the 5/6 placement match if they
    • tie against Slovenia AND Sweden win
    • lose against Slovenia AND Sweden lose

Sweden:

  • qualify for the semi-final if they
    • win against Switzerland AND Iceland do not win
    • tie against Switzerland AND Iceland lose
    • win against Switzerland AND Croatia do not win
    • tie against Switzerland AND Croatia lose
  • will play the 5/6 placement match if they
    • win against Switzerland AND Iceland win AND Croatia win
    • tie against Switzerland AND Iceland win or tie AND Croatia win or tie
    • lose against Switzerland AND Slovenia lose or tie

Slovenia:

  • qualify for the semifinal if they win against Iceland AND Sweden lose
  • will play the 5/6 placement match if they win against Iceland AND Sweden win or tie

Switzerland and Hungary are out of the race for the semi-finals and 5/6 placement match.

If Croatia, Iceland and Sweden finish the group with the same amount of points, the ranking of places 1-3 will be determined according to the below table, considering only the results of the teams tied on six or seven points:

If Slovenia beat Iceland AND Hungary beat Croatia AND Sweden and Switzerland tie in round 4, the ranking of places 1-3 will be determined according to the below table, considering only the results of the teams tied on six points:
